Having problems with the lubricants at the store? Have you ever considered using a homemade lube? That’s right, plenty of everyday items in your house can be used as lube substitutes. Most people have never even tried out anything other than the conventional store-bought item.

There are plenty of items in your house that could serve as lubricant substitutes should you ever need them. Some of them are great to use during sex, and some should only be limited to masturbation sessions. So now you might be wondering, what can I use as lube?

Here’s a list of items that have been tried and tested by many people. We’ve added a small review about each of them to let you know the degree of their effectiveness. We’ve also added the warnings and precautions that you need to know before applying them anywhere important.

What Can You Use as Lube? Homemade Lube Alternatives

You could use many different items actually. Some people go for egg whites, which is very easy to acquire. While some of the more traditional folks, stand by the classic saliva and claims that it’s the best household lube. So, can you use vegetable oil as a lube? Find out below.

      Coconut Oil

Is coconut oil good for lube? Can you use it as a DIY lube? The answer is yes and no. You’re probably not surprised that this showed up here. This home remedy is used for so many things that it’s almost a given that it’s also a suitable lubricant replacement.

However, can you put coconut oil in your vag? This product is actually safe for vaginas. This fluid can very much enhance your session and make both you, and your partner smell sweet and delicious. Coconut has antifungal compounds that help to prevent yeast infections in women. It’s just as effective as vegetable oil as lubricant alternatives.

Just proceed with caution. Coconut oil and condoms don’t mix so just use this fluid when masturbating. Some of its components can destroy the material that condoms are made of. So, if you need the lubricant to enhance your sessions with your partner, then this might not be the best household lubricant for you.

Don’t worry, there are plenty of home lubricants on this list. We’re sure you’ll find something that would work perfectly for what you have in mind. Still, this is the best substitute for a lube that we can recommend to you.

      Aloe Vera

Can you use aloe vera as lube? The answer is yes because unlike coconut oil, this fluid doesn’t have anti latex properties. You can safely use it with a condom. You can use aloe vera to masturbate and to enhance your and your partner’s sex.

Don’t be afraid to apply this liquid on your sensitive parts. Aloe vera is safe for both penises and vaginas. Plenty of people have used this household model before. So far, there have been no reports of inflammation or irritation.

In fact, this home remedy lubrication is good for the sex areas. Aloe vera lube can heal broken skin. It can even make dry skin smooth and bouncy. This fluid can work well with any type of skin, even the really sensitive ones. It is a great anal lubricant alternative that will surely work well for you.

      Body Oil

For masturbation, we actually do think that this model works great. However, for actual penetrative sex, just stick to actual lubes. While body oil seems safe, it can actually irritate your insides. So, don’t use them internally.

      Unscented Anti-Frizz Hair Serum

While the texture and the appearance may look similar, hair products should never be used for any part of the body other than the hair. They can seriously irritate your body. Hair products have warnings on their labels that you should keep them away from certain body parts.

While it doesn’t say dick on the label, you should probably read between the lines. If the product is not safe for some body parts, it’s also not good for your dick. Just don’t do it. Most hair products cost more than lubricant anyway, so it’s not practical to use them as an alternative.

      All-Natural Face Primer

      Shea Butter as Lube

While this product won’t irritate your skin, primers are not exactly that effective as a lubricant. They are not that slippery so they wouldn’t feel as good in the hand and the ding dong. Also, depending on which primer you use, they could be a little greasy.

Aside from that, makeup needs special water or cleanser to wash off completely. If you use the same product on your dick, you’ll probably have to wash it off with the same product too. The point of homemade lubes is to save you money, not cost you more.

      Is Vaseline Good for Lube?

Is Vaseline suitable for lube? Well, you can actually use Vaseline for many things but probably not as a lubricant. While the texture and the sliminess do make it seem like it’ll work, this seemingly harmless product can irritate your private parts.

Plus, Vaseline is hard to wash off. You don’t want blotches of it staying in your dingdong for a very long time. It’s best to stay away from this product and use other DIY lube instead.

      Shea Butter as Lube

Shea butter is a good product to reduce stretch marks. It’s great for the skin so it would really be safe for you to use this as a lubricant. Just make sure you don’t insert this inside the body or in your partner’s private parts.

This alternative lube can cause infection when inserted in the wrong places. It’s only made for external use so don’t try to use this for purposes other than that. It’s great for masturbation though, and you should definitely try using this at least once in your life.

      Plain or Greek Yogurt

Let’s start with a warning: don’t use this during sex. Just masturbate with it. Yoghurt, especially the flavored ones, doesn’t work well with vaginas. They’re okay with dicks, though, so rubbing this in your ding dong should be fine.

Yogurt is healthy for the skin and contains many proteins. It’s healthy to rub this on any part of your body. Just try not to insert this into a vagina. That might cause infection, and that’s the last thing you’d want to happen to your partner. Rubbing this outside is safe though. In fact, yoghurt can actually help treat a yeast infection, so don’t be afraid to do it.

      Saliva

This should go without saying, but saliva works too. It is the number-one item on everybody’s list of things to use as lube. Saliva is easy to use and is always readily available. Plus, it’s safe. Unlike other lube substitutes, this one comes from inside the body. There’s almost no chance of this fluid causing irritation or infection anywhere else, including women’s vagina.

How many times have you inserted your penis into a vagina after a blow job? A couple of times, probably. So, it’s guaranteed to be safe for you and your partner. This item is the best natural lubricant you can use at home.

Just remember not to use this if either of you suffers from mouth infection or diseases of any kind. It’s not like you can pass it through your genitals, but it can cause irritation. It won’t happen 100 percent of the time but don’t risk it anyway.

      Egg Whites

      Egg Whites as lube

Perhaps the biggest concern of using this product is, of course, salmonella. There’s no arguing that it’s a substantial fear. There’s indeed a chance that you can get salmonella and die. However, it’s a very slim chance, and if you can look past that, you could get yourself one of the best lube alternatives in your house.

If salmonella contamination happens, it’s mostly detected fast and announced on TV. Until then, using eggs as a homemade lubricant should be fine. They’re safe on the body and have no known harmful effects on women’s vaginas. They’re the best home lubricant that’s easily available in your home.

      Natural Oils

If it’s a good lube you’re looking for, try natural oils. They’re made for bodily use anyway so putting them on sensitive parts shouldn’t be a problem. Although that depends upon the type of oil, aim to acquire only pure ones, not those diluted solutions. That might have something in them that could irritate your body, especially women’s vaginas.

      Using Lotion as Lube

Can lotion be used as lube? Yes, of course. We see this practised so much that it’s become a joke on TV and movies. Moisturizer is a very effective lube replacement. It’s very safe and isn’t likely to cause bodily harm in any way.

The lotion was made for the skin, so, naturally, it’ll make a good lube but only for men. Never use this on women. Lotion packages have warnings against internal use. While not all of them can be harmful, you don’t want to take chances. Just don’t use this on vaginas.

      Petroleum Jelly

While this showed up to many lube alternative lists, it’s not a good substitute for lube. Petroleum jelly irritates women’s vaginas and like coconut oil, this weakens latexes in condoms. As much as possible, just don’t use this when having sex. For masturbation purposes, however, it’s fine and actually very effective.

Baby oil is a good lube for dicks, not so much for vags. While others claim that this works, there’re plenty of women who reported feeling a burning sensation in their sensitive area when they used this. So, you never really know if it’s safe for you or not. If you don’t have a problem taking chances, then, by all means, try it.

If you’re wondering, what about vegetable oils? Can I use vegetable oil as a lube? We don’t recommend it because store-bought vegetable oil isn’t that safe. However, if you can find a pure and undiluted one, then that’ll work just fine as a lube.

      Vitamin E

Vitamin E is good on the skin. So, it shouldn’t be a problem if you use it to pleasure your stick every once in a while. In fact, regular usage would moisturize your skin and cure any dryness in them. Nobody has reported any vaginal problems with this liquid so far. So safe to say that it should be fine to use this when having sex.

Important Facts to Consider Before You Go

At last, but not least, we need to give you the additional information that may have the weight when you’ll pick the best lube substitutes. Check out these facts before your final decision:

      • Remember: oil-based substitutes don’t easy absorb by the skin, as said in this research. Also, coconut oil can potentially disrupting vagina’s pH level;
      • One of the best alternatives EVER is aloe vera. Besides, you should pick 100% pure aloe vera only, without any irritative artifical ingredients;
      • Natural or organic, which is the best? The best lube is both organic and natural. For example, coconut oil is natural (it comes from coconut seeds), but it can be processed with pesticides
      • You should use petroleum jelly as a last resort only and don’t use it on a daily basis. Remember, petroleum jelly can develop the risk of bacterial vaginosis (2.2 times more).

      Final Word

      Using Lotion as Lube

So, to answer the question, what can I use instead of lube? As you can see, there are plenty of liquids that you can use as safe lubricants. However, nothing works for everybody. If you can, research some ways on how to make lube alternatives work for your body.

One thing you could do as a test is to apply a small amount on any part of your skin and observe what happens. No matter how sensitive your dick is, it’s still covered with the same skin as any other part of your body. So if a liquid irritates your arm, it would most likely hurt the rest of your body.

That’s it, and we hope you learned a little from this article. Keep trying out new stuff to see which items really work for you. Good luck and we hope you find your new homemade lube.

The post is informative and, more importantly, professionally written! From my personal experience, organic moisturizers, aloe vera gel, and vitamin E are safe options for both men and women. However, I believe that it’s always better to buy dedicated products.

I often use moisturizer as lube when I masturbate, it feels great. I take my wife’s Alaffia lotion (nice to see it in your top list); it’s designed for sensitive skin and has a watery texture, so it works well on the cock. However, I wouldn’t recommend it for intercourse, it may be harmful to the vagina.

Hi there! I’m sexually active and love everything related to sex??. Honestly, I’m a happy man ‘cause my soulmate shares my interests! We like experimenting together, discovering new sex toys, and inventing our own.. Of course, we know lots of safe lube alternatives.
Here’s our favorite recipe: mix a glass of water and 4 tsp cornstarch in a saucepan; slowly bring the mixture to boil; when it boils, stir the liquid for about 30 sec.; let it cool before use.
This DIY lube is condom and toy-friendly. So, if you’ve run out of your regular lubricant, just try this safe option!

I used aloe vera as lube alternatives when I was a teenager and jacked off a lot. Now I’m a grown-up and can have a sex with anyone I want, so when a thought about an ideal lube, I turned up on your site, now I have no more doubts that I’ll go on using aloe vera as lube. It is safe and I’m used to it. Thanks!✌

Can’t agree more with all of the above mentioned. I tried practically ALL of diy lubes and would like to share my experience. I guess saliva is beyond explanation. So let’s move further. Lotion is one of the best lubes to use when there’s nothing at hand, but depending on the brand it may dry up quickly. VASELINE is another option when there’s no other available. But prior to using it, better protect your sheets)) So my advice is to try all lube presented here and see what’s best for you.

I don’t like lubes because they’re toxic and you don’t always know their real ingredients. So, homemade lubes come to rescue. I normally used vitamin E oil with my regular partner. But now I have a new boyfriend and wanted to know other alternatives that are safer) Thanks a lot for sharing!

A nice post I was quite surprised with yoghurt. But I don’t know why you haven’t mentioned avocado and almond oils. They are my top lube alternatives that are at hand. I apply them only once as they are long-lasting. I advise them to anyone who loves sex without condoms
